This season was all lined up for the kid to take home the ship. In my dynasty league, I had Alvin Kamara for a 15th round pick and Juju Smith- Schuster for a 9th round pick. I was the front-runner to win it all. Not to mention I chose Leonard Fournette in with my first pick and Mike Evans in the second round giving myself two WR1’s and two RB1’s. I thought it was over before the season even started.
It’s crazy how fast things transpire in fantasy football. After losing Fournette in week 1 to a hamstring, I wasn’t worried. I had Tevin Coleman to fill the role for a couple of weeks and then would get Fournette back.
Then Fournette aggravated his injury and while it was a more significant blow than before I knew my team would still manage to be competitive enough to make the playoffs. Going into Monday night of week 5, I was down 7 points with Alvin Kamara yet to play. I thought I had it in the bag especially with Kamara scoring 30+ PPR fantasy points in week 3 and 4. However, the Saints fucked my life into oblivion, Kamara went for 6.9 points, and I lost by .01. I was immediately put on suicide watch.
Still, even with that news, I was hopeful that I could still make the playoffs and would have Leonard Fournette coming back healthy and rested by week 10 for the final push of the season.
However, Carlos Hyde was just traded to the Jacksonville Jaguares which gives me the reason to believe that Fournette may not come back this year and even if he does he will be playing is a godforsaken committee with T.J Yeldon and Hyde in the backfield.
Even with the amount of luck that it takes to win in fantasy football you’re going to tell me that a team with Aaron Rodgers, Leonard Fournette, Alvin Kamara, Mike Evans, Juju, and Travis Kelce wasn’t going to win. I should have been paid right after the draft.
I guess this is why we play. Why we are so addicted and fixated with a game that gives us nothing but heartbreak and a much lower net worth.
While I know, there are still seven weeks before the playoffs even start and there is so much more devastating news for myself and other fantasy owners to overcome. With the loss of Fournette and the compromised role of Kamara I can say with confidence that this was the year that never was.
